Southern Environs Local Area Plan Meeting 22nd June
A Review of the Southern Environs Local Area Plan has commenced, this includes Raheen, Dooradoye, Mungret and Ballyclough. As part of this process a public workshop and information evening has been organised for Tuesday 22nd June between 7-9pm in St. Pauls’ National School, Dooradoyle.
It’s important that the public become involved in the preparation of the Local Area Plan and the future plans for the area.
Grass Cutting in Glencarin
Limerick County Council took Glencarin housing estate in charge earlier this year but are not cutting the grass. This is because the Government has reduced funding to Local Authorities and the moratorium on recruitment in the public service. The Council usually take on temporary staff during the summer months for maintenance of roads & greens but that is not happening this year due to the lack of funding and the Council are down 17 outdoor staff due to retirements & voluntary leaving package.
I have requested the County Manager to initiate a community employment / Fas scheme in the area to tackle these issues. In the meantime the Director of Services has assured me that all green areas will be maintained this year.
County Developement Plan – Mungret Rail Commuter Route & Schools
In the current draft of the County Developement plan I have proposed that the spur line to the Cement factory at Mungret be adapted to be a Commuter route with the construction of stations along the route.
Also I would like the council to identify suitable land in the Raheen/Mungret area for the construction of a new Primary & Secondary school due to the increase in population in these areas.
Fr. Russell Rd. Pedestrian Crossing
I have been lobbying Limerick Council for some time now to get sanction for a pedestrian crossing at the junction of the Fr. Russell Rd, Craggaun and Racefield Centre. These plans were shelved when developement monies were withdrawn. Subsequent to this I have worked to get this issue back on track.
I am delighted to let you know that at the May meting of Limerick County Council €30k has now been approved from the development fund for the construction of this crossing. This is a great result for the local residents of this area and will make crossing this busy road much safer.
Estates Taken in Charge
I am pleased to inform you that the following estates have now been taken into charge by Limerick County Council:
Clover Hill, Glencairn, Foxfield and The Forts in Raheen.
All issues such as road/footpath repairs, water/sewerage, public lighting and green areas will now be maintained by Limerick County Council.
Resurfacing of Avonmore Road and other road works news
I am pleased to confirm the allocation of €1.5million for road maintenance in the Adare elctoral area.
Following my submissions Limerick County Council have confirmed to me their intention to resurface the main road within the Avonmore estate. Also some minor improvements will be iniatied at the end of the Mulcair road near the Huntsfield roundabout.
This work will be completed within the next few weeks as part of the Council’s road works programme.
Dail Question re Mungret Sewerage Scheme
I asked Jan O’Sullivan T.D to submit the following question to the Minister for the Environment in the Dail:
“When will the proposed sewerage extension to Mungret be authorised to proceed ?”
The following is the answer received:
“A Comprehensive range of new water services infrastructure has been appoved for County Limerick. This includes provision for the commencment of contracts relating to the Mungret sewerage scheme network and the Dromcollogher scheme. In the case of the Mungret sewerage scheme contract, my Department awaits the submission of additional information from Limerick County Council in order to complete it’s assessment of the Council’s tender report”
